Ornella Barra, co-chief operating officer of Walgreens Boots Alliance, accepted a United Nations Foundation 2016 Global Leadership Award on behalf of the company at a ceremony in Manhattan.

WBA was recognized for its “Get a Shot. Give a Shot.” vaccination campaign, which donates a polio or measles vaccine to a child in need for every immunization administered at a Walgreens or Duane Reade drug store or a Healthcare Clinic in-store clinic in the United States.

“We join together with you to be a true global citizen with a sustainable development goal,” Barra said in accepting the award at the UN Foundation Global Leadership Awards Dinner last week. (Click here for video)

Other WBA executives at the event included Richard Ellis, vice president of corporate social responsibility, and Chuck Greener, senior vice president of global communications and corporate affairs. Steve Anderson, president and chief executive officer of the National Association of Chain Drug Stores, also attended the event.
