ATLANTA — Bartell Drugs has become the first user of LexisNexis VerifyRx, a real-time solution developed by LexisNexis Risk Solutions and eRx Network to perform real-time prescription compliance checks within existing pharmacy workflows.

LexisNexis Risk Solutions said Tuesday that the solution — arising from its strategic alliance with eRx Network that started in August — leverages eRx’s real-time pharmacy connectivity and LexisNexis’ provider validation service, covering more than 8.5 million providers.

Bartell Drugs pharmacyThe platform requires little or no IT integration or maintenance by a drug chain and allows industry-leading prescriber validation across the pharmacy industry, according to LexisNexis.

“We were ready to take the next step in prescriber compliance and needed a turnkey solution that would not take resources away from our focus on patients,” Peter Koo, senior vice president of pharmacy at Bartell Drugs, said in a statement. “The VerifyRx solution enables Bartell to take advantage of timely, accurate and comprehensive prescriber data via the LexisNexis Provider Data MasterFile, using eRx Network’s connectivity to implement a solution directly within our pharmacy workflow.”

LexisNexis said VerifyRx helps mitigate the risk of payment recovery and regulatory fines that can result from the prescriptive authority, federal licensing, state credentials and controlled substance regulations.

“We are pleased to be partnering with Bartell to deliver the vast capabilities of VerifyRx and the value provided by the seamless integration with the eRx Network,” stated Craig Ford, vice president of sales for pharmacy at LexisNexis Risk Solutions. “Verifying prescriber data in the workflow process is critical to pharmacies. Our strategic alliance has enabled us to respond to the needs of Bartell and other chains to deliver a leading, compliance-driven solution while using their existing connectivity.”

Besides using VerifyRx for comprehensive compliance checks, pharmacies can leverage the solution’s time-saving, risk management features, such as a custom user interface and reporting tools, the companies said.

“The combination of eRx Network’s reliable network and the comprehensive prescriber compliance solution of LexisNexis Health Care will help make it easier and more efficient for Bartell to meet compliance requirements through its entire chain of stores,” explained Richard Brook, senior vice president at eRx Network. “We are confident that the implementation of our combined solutions will add value to Bartell’s processes without causing any disruption to their workflows or increases to their operational costs or development efforts.”

Bartell Drugs operates 67 stores in Washington’s Puget Sound region.
