Bartell Drugs hires Adam Wampler to lead operations

SEATTLE — Former Albertsons Cos. and Safeway executive Adam Wampler has joined Bartell Drugs as senior vice president of operations.

The Puget Sound-area drug chain said Monday that Wampler most recently served as senior vice president of operations for Northern California at Albertsons. In the position, he oversaw profitability, store conditions, diversity, and employee development across 283 Albertsons and Safeway stores in three states. He also held leadership roles in marketing execution, store design and store layout.

Wampler brings to Bartell Drugs more than 30 years of experience working in the Safeway and the Safeway/Albertsons organizations. Before taking on the role at Albertsons Cos. in February 2016, he served as senior vice president of operations at Safeway for a year and, prior to that, was vice president of marketing operations at Safeway since October 1988.

Albertsons Cos. and Safeway wrapped up their merger deal in January 2015.

“Adam’s experience in grocery and retail are a great fit for Bartell Drugs. His focus on delivering an exceptional store experience through employee development and seamless operations will expand upon our famous Red Vest service,” Bartell Drugs chief executive officer Kathi Lentzsch said in a statement.

Overall, Bartell Drugs operates 67 drug stores in Washington’s King, Snohomish and Pierce counties.
