SEATTLE — Customers turned out in force for the grand opening of Bartell Drugs’ new store in Seattle’s Chinatown-International District.

The drug chain said the nearly 12,000-square-foot store, at 4th and Jackson streets and representing its 65th location, had a line around the block almost an hour before opening this past Saturday, the day of the grand opening event.

Running 8 a.m. to noon, the festivities included giveaways like gift baskets and travel clinic kits plus special offers at the ice cream fountain and growler fill bar, as well as other deals throughout the store.

The first 200 people at the store opening received a limited-edition Bartell Tumbler holding a Bartell Drug’s gift card, ranging from $5 to $500. The event also featured a traditional Chinese lion dance. Highlights of the new store include an expanded cosmetics section, a beer growler station dubbed “Northwest on Tap” offering local microbrews, Caffé Vita espresso and coffee, and a grab-and-go food section.

Bartell plans to open its 66th location in Ballard next month.

Also in October, Bartell is slated to hold its Fall Beauty Event. Customers can sign up to make an appointment for a free 20-minute makeup demo, where they can get an “everyday fresh look” and a gift bag of makeup products, the drug chain said. The demos will be offered at Bartell’s Upper Queen Anne, Magnolia, Gig Harbor, Seattle Hill Road, Bellevue Village and University Village locations.

The Bartell Fall Beauty Event is scheduled for Oct. 2 to 8.
