As August draws to a close, the National Association of Chain Drug Stores can chalk up a wildly successful month for NACDS RxImpact pharmacy tours with members of Congress and their staff.
Last week NACDS hosted what it called a record-breaking 20 pharmacy tours, a 34% surge in tours hosted in just one week. Overall for August, 45 RxImpact pharmacy tours were on the schedule — the same number of tours that were conducted from January to July.
Following a tour of a Giant Pharmacy in Rockville, Md., last week, Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D., Md.) staff member Karen Hendricks commented, “We both learned so much and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. I don’t recall having a better experience getting a flu shot!”
Other tours this month included Rep. Randy Hultgren (R., Ill.) at a Jewel-Osco Pharmacy in McHenry, Ill.; Sen. Cory Gardner (R., Colo.) at a Safeway Pharmacy in Fort Collins, Colo.; Rep. Todd Budd (R., N.C.) at a Harris Teeter pharmacy in Mooresville, N.C.; and Rep. Bob Gibbs (R., Ohio) at a Ritzman Pharmacy in Medina, Ohio.
“These visits are the best way to highlight our work and to seek support on those issues impacting pharmacy,” stated Steve Ferris, government and public affairs director for NACDS chain member Discount Drug Mart, who also engaged in the tour with Rep. Gibbs.
Also participating in or scheduled for pharmacy tours this month were Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R., Pa.) at a Rite Aid in Doylestown, Pa.; Rep. Rick Crawford (R., Ark.) at a Fred’s Pharmacy in Jonesboro, Ark.; Rep. Julia Brownley (D., Calif.) at a CVS Pharmacy in Camarillo, Ca.; and Rep. Ted Deutch (D., Fla.) at a Costco pharmacy in Boca Raton, Fla., among others.
