MENLO PARK, Calif. — BioPharmX Corp. has landed retail distribution for Violet iodine, a pill for the relief of premenstrual breast discomfort, at CVS/pharmacy.

BioPharmX Violet Iodine_WEBBioPharmX said Tuesday that Violet iodine, which the company called a “first of its kind” product, is available now at select CVS stores and will be offered exclusively in the feminine care aisle. The product also is sold online at CVS.com, Drugstore.com, and Walgreens.com.

Violet iodine is a nonprescription, daily iodine supplement for the relief of common symptoms of cyclic mastalgia and fibrocystic breast condition (FBC), including monthly swelling, tenderness, aches and heaviness.

“We continue to expand the national availability of Violet iodine to help provide relief to the nearly 37.5 million women in America who suffer from premenstrual breast discomfort,” stated BioPharmX president Anja Krammer. “We hope more women will now discover an alternative to living with unnecessary pain.”

FBC is thought to be caused by hormonal imbalances, which can cause breast tissue growth to exceed its natural cell turnover, according to BioPharmX. Breast tissue builds up month after month with each menstrual cycle, resulting in swollen, achy and tender breasts.

“While Violet iodine is a daily supplement, it is conveniently available and readily found in the feminine care aisle, where women are already shopping for other menstrual-related needs,” Krammer added. “We want women to know they no longer just have to ‘deal with it.’ Now there is a solution with Violet iodine.”
