DETROIT — Caraco Pharmaceutical Laboratories Ltd. has begun shipping tamsulosin hydrochloride capsules, a medication for men with an enlarged prostate.

The company said Thursday that the product was recently approved by the Food and Drug Administration for Sun Pharma’s abbreviated new drug application (ANDA).

According to Caraco, tamsulosin hydrochloride capsules are therapeutically equivalent to Flomax Capsules 0.4 mg from Boehringer-Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals Inc. Flomax is a registered trademark of Astellas Pharma Inc.

Tamsulosin hydrochloride capsules are indicated for the treatment of the signs and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), the medical term for enlarged prostate.
