NEW YORK — Pharmaceutical distributors Cardinal Health Inc. and AmerisourceBergen Corp. this week announced the election of new board members.

Cardinal said that Nancy Killefer is slated to join its board as an independent director on Sept. 14. Most recently, she was senior partner of McKinsey & Co. until her retirement in 2013. At McKinsey, she served a multitude of consumer, retail, health care and other companies in roles of increasing responsibility over the span of more than three decades.

Killefer also served in the U.S. Treasury Department as assistant secretary for management, chief financial officer and chief operating officer.

“Nancy has incredibly strong health care and leadership experience,” Cardinal chairman and chief executive officer George Barrett said in a statement. “We believe her perspective on the rapidly evolving health care industry as well as her broad corporate board experience will be particularly relevant. We’re very pleased to welcome her to our board of directors.”

At AmerisourceBergen, D. Mark Durcan, CEO of semiconductor maker Micron Technology Inc., has been elected to the board to fill the vacancy left by Edward Hagenlocker’s retirement at the distributor’s annual shareholders meeting in March.

A 30-year veteran of Micron, Durcan has served as CEO and as a director since February 2012. He was president from June 2007 to February 2012, during which time he continued in his role as chief operating officer, a position he assumed in February 2006. He served as chief technology officer from June 1997 to February 2006.

During Durcan’s tenure as chief executive, Micron has become one of the world’s largest chip makers, AmerisourceBergen noted.

“Mark is recognized for his strategic vision and focus on technology innovation to drive growth in a highly competitive industry, as well as his success and personal commitment to fostering international partnerships and joint ventures to expand the footprint of a U.S.-based business in key markets all over the world,” stated AmerisourceBergen president and CEO Steve Collis. “Mark’s insights will be invaluable as we pursue our long-range plans to increase our international presence and invest in technology to enhance supply chain efficiency and security.”

AmerisourceBergen chairman Richard Gozon added, “Mark’s understanding of international markets and his experience managing global manufacturing, procurement and supply chain activities combined with his expertise in technology make him an excellent addition to our board.”
