ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Document Security Systems Inc. has been awarded an annual packaging order contract from Walgreen Co. worth about $2.7 million

The security provider, which specializes in authentication solutions to prevent counterfeiting and brand fraud, said Monday that the contract with Walgreens runs through July 2011 and presents additional opportunities for noncontract work.

Document Security Systems added that the order represents a renewal of an ongoing relationship between its packaging subsidiary, Premier Packaging, and Walgreens.

"We value our continuing relationship with Walgreens, and we are very pleased to once again be chosen for their packaging needs," Robert Bzdick, chief operating officer of Document Security Systems, said in a statement. "Despite significant competitive pressures for this order, our ability to deliver outstanding quality and service at extremely competitive pricing was the key for Premier in winning this order."

Document Security Systems develops optical deterrent technologies to thwart counterfeiting and brand fraud of paper, plastic and electronically generated printed assets. Its solutions are designed to protect such applications as currency, vital records, brand protection, identifications cards, e-commerce, passports and gift certificates.
