GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn. – Dollar General has promoted a number of executives across various corporate functions, in a move the company says reflects its culture of employee growth and development, as well as its prioritization of leadership diversity.
In all the company announced 11 appointments, including promotions from within its own teams and appointments of executives who are new to the company.
Matthew Simonsen has been promoted to senior vice president of real estate and development, for example. Simonsen joined Dollar General in 2013, and has since held roles of increasing responsibility in store operations, procurement, pricing, business analytics, and merchandising planning. He joined the DG real estate and development team in 2020 and most recently served as vice president of real estate.
Jackie Li has been promoted to senior vice president of private brands and global sourcing. He joined Dollar General in 2018 as vice president and chief global sourcing officer and has been instrumental in developing the Company’s global sourcing strategies in quality products while driving cost savings. With more than 18 years of experience in strategic global sourcing, product development, manufacturing and international operations management, Li plays a significant role in the Company’s non-consumable initiative, health care and other product sourcing initiatives, the company said.
Andrew Newkirk has joined Dollar General as senior vice president of distribution. In this role, he will lead operations for half of DG’s distribution network. With more than 20 years of distribution, transportation, logistics and operations leadership experience, he has a proven track record of project management, financial planning and cross-functional team building.
Mary Beth Hawthorne has joined Dollar General as vice president of store operations for the northeast region. In her new role, Hawthorne will be responsible for developing strong talent and building teams, fostering the company’s purpose-driven culture and leading customers’ experiences.
Tyler Hickman has been promoted to vice president, division merchandise manager. Since joining the Dollar General in 2005, Hickman has worked in various roles within the perishables category, most recently serving as senior director, a post he has held since 2019. Hickman’s role will be to develop and grow the perishable category at Dollar General through product assortment planning and strategic sourcing.
Dollar General has also promoted Kimberly Huffman to vice president of human resources. Huffman joined DG in 2012, most recently serving as senior director of human resources. Huffman has been responsible for creating key HR programs focused on employee engagement, performance management and leadership development. In her new role, Huffman will lead organizational development and corporate communications teams.
Charlotte Hutchins has been promoted to vice president of human resources. She has served in various field and corporate HR roles with increasing responsibility, most recently as senior director of corporate human resources. Hutchins will continue to lead the growing and rapidly evolving corporate HR function, utilizing her extensive experience and ideas to continually transform Dollar General’s modern corporate environment.
Matt Lucas, Rebecca Powers and Monty Williams have each been named to posts as vice presidents of distribution. Lucas joined Dollar General in 2013 as an operations manager and most recently served as senior director of perishable distribution center operations. He has been instrumental in implementing multiple distribution center startups while improving distribution center leadership development, productivity, safety and policy compliance, according to the company. Powers brings more than 15 years of retail omnichannel distribution experience that includes continuous improvement, project management and business development to his new role. Williams has more than 16 years of warehouse, regional inventory allocation and customer fulfillment experience.
Dollar General has also promoted Craig Marsh to vice president of information technology. With more than 20 years of experience in various technology roles, he has led a significant transformation of the DG technology team’s organizational structure and processes. Marsh joined the company in 2020 as senior director of information technology, and has helped lead DG’s technology transformation effort.
