PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y. — Drive Medical Canada, a subsidiary of Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare, has acquired the mobility and bathroom safety equipment business of AMG Medical.

Financial terms of the transaction weren’t disclosed. Drive said the acquired home health care brands — Hugo, Profilio, AquaSense and Airgo — are leading durable medical equipment (DME) brands in Canada and are marketed and distributed to all major wholesalers, pharmacies and home care dealers in the country.

Plans call for Drive Medical Canada and the acquired AMG brands to operate independently during a ninety-day transition period until the businesses are integrated.

Drive said the acquisition of the four brands will enhance its market position in Canada and expand its portfolio of high-quality mobility and bathroom safety products.

“This is a strategic acquisition for Drive Medical Canada. Adding these well-known brands to the Drive family of products provides us with brand leverage and distribution into all major wholesalers, retailers and home care dealers throughout Canada,” stated Harvey Diamond, chairman and chief executive officer of Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare. “In addition, we look forward to promoting these prestigious products to our customers in the United States and all over the world.”

According to Kathy Sarafian, CEO of Drive Medical Canada, the Montreal-based office and key staff associated with the acquired brands will remain in place to maintain business continuity.

“AMG has built a terrific team around these products, and we welcome them to Team Drive,” Sarafian commented. “We intend to continue to provide the quality, service and support that AMG’s customers have come to rely upon, along with Drive’s extensive product portfolio and distribution network.”
