BELLEVUE, Wash. — Drugstore.com tallied the highest number of customer orders in its history on the Monday after the Thanksgiving weekend, better known as "Cyber Monday" for its heavy online shopping activity.

The online retailer said Tuesday that this holiday season its main drugstore.com site and its beauty.com web store featured more special offers than in previous years, as well as their largest gift selection ever.

"While one day does not make the season, we are delighted that customers responded in record numbers to drugstore.com and beauty.com offers on Cyber Monday," drugstore.com chief marketing officer David Lonczak said in a statement. "Our selection, prices, free shipping and cash-back program seem to have struck a positive chord with consumers, and we plan to keep many of these ‘cyber deals’ in place throughout the holiday season and beyond."

Holiday best-sellers on drugstore.com and beauty.com on Cyber Monday included the EyeClops Mini Projector, EyeClops Night Vision and Marshmallow Shooters in toys; the RapidLash Eyelash Renewal System, Beauty by Borghese Holiday Gift Set and DuWop Twilight Lip Venom in beauty; and Philips Sonicare and Oral-B power toothbrushes and the Braun Pulsonic shaver in small electrics, according to the company.

The retailer noted that it has made it easier for customers to find gifts by providing a selection of holiday gift guides on the drugstore.com and beauty.com sites. Guides include "Gifts for Her," "Gifts for Him," "Gifts Under $25" and "Shop by Personality." There are also customer reviews as well as videos of products, particularly toys and games, to help customers pick the best gifts, drugstore.com added.

This year, some retail analysts have suggested that Cyber Monday is emerging as the new Black Friday, which they say is becoming more of a social occasion for shoppers than a serious buying event.

Online traffic typically surges on the Monday after Thanksgiving as consumers see if web retailers can top deals that they’ve seen in brick-and-mortar stores on Black Friday and the ensuing weekend. This year saw another busy Cyber Monday as consumers continue to seek value amid ongoing economic pressure, according to analysts.
