The FLAVORx app for iOS lets users find flavorings for a medication and locate a pharmacy that offers the service.

COLUMBIA, Md. — FLAVORx aims to help improve adherence to pediatric medications with the launch of its first mobile application for iPhone.

The company said the FLAVORx app for iOS is designed to be an extension of its custom-flavoring service for children’s medicine, which is available in more than 40,000 pharmacies nationwide. The app enables a parent, prescriber or patient discover the best taste options for children’s medications on their iPhone and quickly locate a pharmacy that offers taste customization.

FLAVORx said that by enabling parents and their children to choose the taste of medications via their smartphone, it hopes to facilitate the conversation between patients and their health care providers about the importance of medication adherence.

The company noted that studies show that seven in 10 parents struggle to give their children medicine, often because children don’t like the taste of medication or the experience of taking it. With FLAVORx, pharmacists can customize the taste of a child’s liquid medicine to his or her favorite flavor.

“We are always looking for new, innovative ways to help people take their medicine as well as better connect health care providers to their patients,” stated Stuart Amos, president and chief executive officer of FLAVORx. “Our new app leverages the immense popularity of the iPhone, especially among parents of young children, to accomplish both goals.”

The free FLAVORx app is available for download at the iTunes App Store. FLAVORx added that with the launch of the Apple Watch, it’s also developing apps for wearable devices to improve medication adherence and outcomes.
