DEERFIELD, Ill. — Eddie Frail, who joined Walgreen Co. last June as divisional vice president and general merchandise manager of seasonal and general merchandise, has left the company.

No replacement has been named.

Frail joined Walgreens after a 21-year career at Walmart, where he last served as vice president and general manager of seasonal, hard lines and sundries in the retailer’s Sam’s Club division. Earlier, Frail had served as vice president of Sam’s International.

When Frail joined Walgreens, the retailer named another Walmart alumnus, Shannon Petree, to the post of divisional vice president and general merchandise manager for beauty care and personal care.

At the same time, a former Kraft Foods Inc. executive, Maurice Alkemade, was named divisional vice president and general merchandise manager of private brands. Those appointments were widely viewed as a move to bring new talent and diverse experience into the Illinois-based chain’s merchandising organization.

Frail’s departure follows the exits of senior vice president George Riedl, general merchandise manager Chong Bang and vice president Dave van Howe, all of whom left Walgreens last year.
