VALLEY FORGE, Pa. — Mike Cantrell has been promoted to the new position of president at AmerisourceBergen Corp.’s Good Neighbor Pharmacy network.

The pharmaceutical and health products distributor also said this week that Cantrell has been appointed group vice president of retail business development. He reports to Jerry Cline, senior vice president of retail sales and marketing at AmerisourceBergen.

In the new post, Cantrell serves as national leader of the Good Neighbor Pharmacy network, which encompasses over 3,600 independently owned and operated pharmacies. He also supervises the development of business opportunities for the retail customers and is responsible for the Good Neighbor Pharmacy brand.

"I am looking forward to helping our pharmacists develop their role in health care reform, with the understanding that they are a significant component of the solution," Cantrell said in a statement. "The changes will revolve around access, affordability and quality, and the community pharmacist plays an integral part in health care reform."

Cantrell joined AmerisourceBergen last year as vice president of business development. Before that, he was vice president of professional services at Longs Drug Stores and was also named to the board of RxAmerica, the chain’s pharmacy benefit management unit, responsible for central fill initiatives, managed care contracting and performance, state and federal regulatory and legislative affairs, and strategic business development.
