This week, Rite Aid marked the opening its first new distribution center in 16 years, located in Spartanburg, S.C.

The 900,000-square-foot facility, located on a 97-acre site at 789 Flatwood Industrial Dr. in Spartanburg, near Interstate 85 between Highways 9 and 221, will support over 1,000 Rite Aid stores in the Southeast.

Besides state-of-the-art warehouse and logistics technology, the new Spartanburg distribution center houses 60,000 square feet of office space, including an associate cafeteria, fitness center plus other amenities. Rite Aid employs 1,531 at its 91 stores and distribution center in South Carolina.

Among those on hand at the ribbon-cutting event to open the facility were John Standley, Rite Aid chairman and CEO; Ken Martindale, CEO of stores and president at Rite Aid; Bobby Hitt, secretary of commerce for South Carolina; and Alan Wilson, South Carolina’s attorney general.

Also during the event, the Rite Aid Foundation presented a $25,000 donation to Boys & Girls Clubs of the Upstate.
