GOUVERNEUR, N.Y. — Kinney Drugs has teamed up with cancer services programs in three upstate New York counties to provide information on how uninsured patients can get free cancer screenings.

In addition, the drug store chain provided free blood glucose tests and diabetes education clinics at all of its Vermont stores last month.

“We want the people in our communities to know how important it is to be screened for breast, cervical and colorectal cancer and to understand how early detection can save lives,” a spokeswoman for the 91-store chain says about Kinney’s partnership with New York’s Oneida, Herkimer and Madison counties.

Kinney is dedicated to keeping everyone in the communities it serves healthy by teaming with local health agencies and other health care organizations, the spokeswoman notes.

That commitment to its customers was also behind the blood glucose and diabetes clinics the chain held in Vermont on March 23. Working in conjunction with six local hospitals, the clinics offered free blood glucose tests and diabetes education.

Copies of “How to Live Well With Diabetes,” a booklet provided by the Vermont Health Department, were also available to those attending the clinics.
