WEST DES MOINES, Iowa  — Throughout November, Hy-Vee’s registered dietitians are hosting free events focused on managing carbohydrate intake. The dietitian teams are also hosting low-carb educational events, including store tours, cooking classes and A1C screenings. The events offer customers tips and information on how they can shop and prepare foods for the holidays, while making some healthy, low-carb additions to favorite meal traditions.

November Free A1C Screening Tour
Hy-Vee dietitians are conducting 1,000 free A1C screenings at more than 50 Hy-Vee locations. Hemoglobin A1C is a blood test that individuals living with diabetes use to manage their blood glucose levels that provides information about that individual’s average levels of blood glucose over a 2-3 month period. These screenings are powered by Blue Diamond, Catalina Crunch, Right Rice, Zevia and Quaker. To find a store providing A1C screenings, click here.

Virtual Holiday Carb Swap Cooking Classes
Hy-Vee dietitians will also lead multiple “Holiday Carb Swap” virtual cooking classes throughout November. Each cooking class will focus on adjusting holiday meal traditions through healthy, low-carb additions. Cost is $10 per class.

•    Tuesday, Nov. 16, 12:30 p.m.
•    Thursday, Nov. 18, 5 p.m.
•    Monday, Nov. 29, 5:30 p.m. (also offered in Spanish)

Virtual Freezer Meal Prep Workshop
Free up time by prepping meals ahead in this virtual class. In less than an hour, prepare five freezer meals to feed 4-6 people. Menu includes Slow Cooker Korean Beef, Pork Carnitas, Honey Garlic Chicken, Firecracker Grilled Salmon and Apple Cinnamon Baked Oatmeal. Cost is $10 per class.

Virtual Diabetes Store Tours
Hy-Vee dietitians helping attendees navigate the aisles on a virtual store tour. Learn the basics of a diabetes meal plan. Plus, get shopping tips and product recommendations to help add more nutrition to your cart. This is a complimentary 45-minute store tour.
