Industry mourns Allen Hirschfield

NORTHFIELD, Ill. — Industry veteran Allen Hirschfield passed away on March 5th at the age of 93. He was the co-founder of Pankow Associates, a leading consumer products broker representing manufacturers throughout the Midwest. Hirschfield had been the president and CEO of the company since it’s inception in 1957 and had been in the business of selling general merchandise and health and beauty products for over 60 years.

Known as one of the nation’s most respected Sales Agency Practitioners, he had also served as a board member and president of NAGMR, National Association of General Merchandise Representatives as well as an active participant in several other Manufacturers’ Brokerage Advisory Committees. He was a leader in the industry with long term involvement in The National Association of Chain Drug Stores. He was a graduate of Northwestern University, where he majored in Advertising and Marketing.

Beloved husband for 70 years of Nancy, nee Karasik; devoted father of Jill (Jeffrey) Meltzer, Beth Hirschfield, and Carol (Dr. Richard Baer) Hirschfield; cherished grandfather of Dana (Cory) Provus, Michael and Adam Meltzer, and Alex and Olivia Kutner; proud great-grandfather of Cooper and Mia; dear brother of the late Howard (late Lois) Hirschfield; caring brother-in-law of Paula (Dr. Morton) Dubnow; loving uncle of many. The family would like to thank Allen’s dedicated caregivers Ruel Cajigas and Kerwin Leyno.  He will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched. Funeral services are private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Temple Jeremiah, www.templejeremiah.org, or a charity of your choice.
