JOHNSON CITY, N.Y. — Innovation, makers of PharmASSIST pharmacy automation solutions, today announced that vice president, government and professional services, Dr. Phil Samples has been elected to the board of directors for AMSUS, The Society of Federal Heath Professionals. Dr. Samples’ term on the AMSUS board will begin on January 1, 2019 upon the retirement of current board member, Colonel James Young, retired U.S. Air Force (USAF) and former Chief Pharmacist for the entire Department of Defense.

“Dr. Samples has tremendous experience in the military, in pharmacy, and in the pharmaceutical industry, all of which will add to the diversity and expertise of the board,” said Colonel Young. “His leadership role as Pharmacy Consultant for the USAF, and his experience and understanding of the pharmaceutical industry has a special significance with regard to the AMSUS-SM organization and the issues we regard as vitally important to the overall organization. AMSUS, The Society of Federal Health Professionals, is a non-profit member-based educational and professional development association serving the Department of Defense, Veterans Affairs, Health and Human Services, Department of Homeland Security, federal health professionals and their families, industry partners and advocates for advancing health for all.

Dr. Samples leads all Innovation’s business relations with the US government and oversees professional services for all industry verticals. He is 27-year US Air Force (USAF) veteran, former pharmacy consultant for the USAF, and served as a senior advisor to the USAF Surgeon General. Dr. Samples also is a current member of the Dean’s Advisory Council at Binghamton University School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences (SOPPS).
