J.C. Penney CMO Mary Beth West to join Hershey

HERSHEY, Pa. — Hershey Co. has named J.C. Penney Co. marketing chief Mary Beth West as senior vice president and chief growth officer.

Hershey said West is slated join the company on May 1. Reporting to chief executive officer Michele Buck, West will oversee Hershey’s growth strategy, including insights and analytics, strategy, marketing excellence functions, innovation, research and development, mergers and acquisitions and The Hershey Experience.

West brings 30 years of executive and marketing leadership to Hershey. As executive vice president and chief customer and marketing officer at J.C. Penney, she was responsible for revitalizing the JCPenney brand. She joined the department store retailer in that role in 2015 after serving on its board for nine years.

In joining Hershey, West will return to the food sector. Before going to J.C. Penney, she served for 28 years at Mondelez International, formerly Kraft Foods, most recently as executive vice president and chief category and marketing officer, as well as president of the company’s North American beverage and grocery businesses.

“Mary Beth will be a great addition to our executive team,” Buck said in a statement. “She is an accomplished business leader who is considered one of the best food executives and marketers in the industry. Her deep experience in growing some of the world’s best-known consumer brands and demonstrated ability to transform consumer engagement will be a tremendous asset to Hershey as we chart our growth agenda.”

Hershey’s roster of more than 80 snack, chocolate and candy brands includes Hershey’s, Reese’s, Hershey’s Kisses, Jolly Rancher, Ice Breakers and Brookside.
