LONGUEUIL, Quebec — Jean Coutu Group is implementing the Microsoft Dynamics for Retail workforce management solution to run its entire retail operations, from its headquarters to point-of-sale devices.

Dynamics is to be deployed, in phases, to more than 400 stores, 3,000 POS systems and 11,500 devices.

The solution provider, UXC Eclipse of Calgary and New York, will start with two pilot stores and then ramp up the others in about 24 months.

Dave Weiner, the North American chief executive officer of UXC Eclipse, said the biggest difference Jean Coutu will get with Dynamics over its old system is that it will enable the retailer to take advantage of multichannel access.

“In retail you have to always look at your labor dollars per sales dollars ratio: that is how you know you are managing labor costs well,” Jean Coutu vice president and chief information officer Alain Boudreault said. “The main expense is cost of goods sold and then labor, so workforce management from Dynamics will be very important. Now franchisers have an idea of their costs.”
