Kelly becomes chief merchant at Rexall

MISSISSAUGA, Ontario — Rexall Pharma Plus has added two seasoned executives to its management team.

Mary Kelly has been named executive vice president and chief merchandising officer at the 436-unit chain, reporting directly to chief executive officer Frank Scorpiniti.

Kelly comes to Rexall with 26 years of experience in both Canada and the United States. She most recently served as executive vice president, merchandising, category management at Shoppers Drug Mart.

In addition to the four years she spent with SDM, Kelly’s experience includes 17 years at Target Corp., where she held various positions in merchandising and pharmacy, as well as stints at Rexall Drug Corp. and Eli Lilly and Co.

“Mary brings significant drug retail experience, which will help us continue our journey of reinventing our brand experience,” Scorpiniti says.

Patrick Heffernan has joined Rexall as vice president of merchandising. He comes to the company with more than 18 years of management and operations experience, including creating strategic merchandising and marketing plans.

Heffernan previously spent eight years at Lawton Drugs/Sobeys Pharmacy Group, where he served as senior director of merchandising and marketing.

In his new post at Rexall, Heffernan will be responsible for leading the company’s category management team in developing and delivering strategies to continue driving front shop results.

The reinvention of Rexall’s brand experience includes changes to the chain’s logo and the development of a new store with an expanded health care assortment that addresses consumer interest in natural and homeopathic products. Rexall has also embraced the extension of pharmacy services, including immunizations.
