RALEIGH, N.C. — Kerr Drug is offering an assessment tool that predicts an individual’s risk of developing chronic, preventable obesity-related diseases such as diabetes, stroke and heart disease.

The North Carolina drug store chain said Monday that it’s partnering with Durham, N.C.-based BioSignia to offer the test, dubbed Know Your Number, and that it’s only available to customers at Kerr Drug stores in the Research Triangle Park area — and not at any other pharmacy chain nationwide.

Know Your Number takes a person’s health information — including weight, blood pressure, family history, lifestyle habits and key blood values — and then uses BioSignia’s proprietary technology to produce a detailed report on that individual’s risk of developing specific diseases. Obesity, lack of exercise and an unhealthy lifestyle are the top contributing factors to the nation’s top three disease killers.

"Kerr Drug has a history of innovative health care, and we believe offering the Know Your Number test continues that tradition," Kerr president and chief executive officer Tony Civello said in a statement. "Know Your Number not only provides a reality check of your current health status and disease risk, it also provides a roadmap of how to reduce that risk. It’s a powerful tool to improve the health of our customers."

The report from the test indicates which disease risks can be lowered, how to reduce your "inner age" and regain lost years of life, and what steps to take to help live a longer, healthier life.

Kerr said it has already offered the Know Your Number test as part of its corporate wellness programs and in its work with North Carolina state agencies, but it’s now available to retail store customers.

"We are extremely excited at the opportunity to work with one of the most recognized and respected drug chains in the country," commented John Williams, CEO of BioSignia, a technology provider serving the preventive health and life insurance sectors. "We firmly believe in the power of Know Your Number and the health benefits it will deliver to Kerr Drugs’ customers."

The Know Your Number test can be performed with an appointment in about 30 minutes and costs $50. Test results are confidential.

"Kerr Drug’s health centers are designed to guide and empower people to take charge of their health," Civello added, "and the Know Your Number test provides a snapshot of where you are in your journey to better health plus a guide to get where you need to be."
