RALEIGH, N.C. — Kerr Drug has signed a licensing agreement for MirixaEdge, Mirixa Corp.’s clinical application that supports the delivery of pharmacist-based patient care services, including medication therapy management (MTM).

Kerr plans to offer MTM services to the city of Charleston, S.C., and Charleston Water Works employees, using the web-based MirixaEdge application as the technology platform for the effort.

Tony Civello, president and chief executive officer of Kerr, sees the initiative as an example of the chain’s drive to provide patients, health plans and the medical community with comprehensive, convenient health and wellness programs.

“Our mission is to position the role of the pharmacist and the pharmacy as more than just a dispensing function. Pharmacists have extensive clinical knowledge that should be leveraged by patients to better understand their medications and how to take them,” Civello explains. “The MirixaEdge application will help us capture and ultimately measure the value our patients are receiving.”

Rebecca Chater, executive vice president at Kerr, adds that the MirixaEdge software and its programmatic approach to chronic disease management reflects the drug store chain’s focus on developing new clinical services.

“In order to ensure consistency of clinical service delivery across our pharmacies, we need a tool like MirixaEdge to provide the framework for guiding an interactive discussion between the pharmacist and the patient,” Chater says. “The MirixaEdge application has the right level of structure, along with disease-specific inquiries, that will be of great benefit to our customers and staff.”

Kerr will use MirixaEdge to track the progress of employee medication regimens, provide educational information to patients and report on MTM service outcomes. The solution offers tools to create patient-customized care programs; templates for chronic disease states; and enhanced documentation capability to aid in capturing patient care outcomes.
