GOUVERNEUR, N.Y. — Following a long illness, Kinney Drugs president Jim Spencer passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Sunday, March 3.

Jim Spencer

Following his 1990 graduation from Rutgers University School of Business, Spencer launched what would be a long and distinguished career in retail. In 2010, Spencer joined Kinney Drugs as director of retail operations. He rose quickly through the organization, and most recently served as executive vice president of administrative support services for KPH Healthcare Services, Inc. and president of Kinney Drugs. For many years, he also served on the board of directors of the Kinney Drugs Foundation.

“Jim was a tremendous leader who absolutely loved retail,” said Bridget-ann Hart, president and chief executive officer of KPH Healthcare Services. “He always challenged himself and his colleagues to be better in business while still preserving our unique culture. He was a friend to all of us and will be sorely missed.”

Spencer enjoyed golf, boating, and family vacations and was an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Lisa Spencer, and two daughters, Samantha and Jessica Spencer.

Family and friends may call 9:00am – 12:00pm Friday, March 8, 2019, immediately followed by a funeral service in celebration of Spencer’s life at the Thomas J. Pirro, Jr. Funeral Home, 3401 Vickery Road, North Syracuse, N.Y. Cards and remembrances may be sent to the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Kinney Drugs Foundation, 29 East Main St., Gouverneur, NY 13642.
