GOUVERNEUR, N.Y. — Regional pharmacy chain Kinney Drugs is changing its corporate name.

After doing business for more than 100 years as Kinney Drugs Inc., the company will now be known as KPH Healthcare Services Inc.

Kinney noted that there have been no changes in the company’s ownership structure or in its operations. The name change officially went into effect April 1.

“The name change more accurately reflects the makeup of our corporation, which offers a diverse and complimentary range of pharmacy-related health care services,” the company said in a statement.

Kinney operates 100 drug stores in northern and central New York and Vermont. There will be no changes made to Kinney’s store signs and logo, the company said.

Kinney also operates HealthDirect Institutional Pharmacy Services, which serves long-term care facilities as well as assisted living facilities, group homes, county and state correctional facilities, and addiction and mental health residences.

ProAct Pharmacy Benefit Management, another Kinney division, provides mail-order prescription fulfillment for many large employer health insurance plans in the region.

“This is a corporate name change only and will not affect the identity of our divisions,” Kinney director of marketing Jennifer Whalen commented in a published report. “Each will continue to use their current logos and will maintain their brand distinctions, including the familiar Kinney Drugs name and logo long associated with our drug stores. All Kinney Drugs store signage will remain the same.”
