CINCINNATI — Kroger has appointed Milen Mahadevan as its first chief data and AI officer, a newly created role designed to unify the company’s data and artificial intelligence strategy. Mahadevan will still continue as president and CEO of 84.51°, Kroger’s data analytics subsidiary, while also overseeing the company’s data and AI platform and customer technology teams.

The move consolidates Kroger’s data and AI functions under a single leader, with a focus on embedding AI capabilities across core business processes. Mahadevan will partner with leaders throughout the organization to develop next‑generation agentic capabilities aimed at transforming operations and enhancing customer engagement. The role underscores the central importance of data and data science in speeding up the company’s ongoing transformation.

Mahadevan has been with Kroger since 2015. In 2020, he was appointed president and CEO of 84.51° after serving as chief operating officer, where he led day-to-day operations and helped shape the company’s strategic direction. Earlier in his career, he oversaw client solutions and capabilities at 84.51° and led the Service Line Organization at dunnhumby USA, driving the development of scalable data management, analytics, and insights solutions across markets and categories.
