HONOLULU — Walgreens has brought its flagship store concept to Hawaii for the first time with the opening of a 35,576-square-foot, two-story outlet in this city’s popular Ala Moana shopping district.
“We are very excited to open a Walgreens flagship store in the beautiful city of Honolulu,” Roberto Valencia, corporate operations vice president at Walgreens, said in a statement. “The store will serve as one of America’s most loved pharmacy-led health, well-being and beauty destinations.”
The company says the new store has a culturally inspired design, reflecting elements of traditional Hawaiian architecture and embraces components of the natural landscape.
The store also reflects the retailer’s Well Experience format. The first floor has an Upmarket Café, including a made-to-order juice, smoothie and milkshake bar; fresh, hand-rolled sushi, poke and sashimi; produce and on-the-go meal options such as wraps, sandwiches and salads; premium coffee beverages; baked goods; self-serve frozen yogurt; and a broad selection of beer, wine and spirits.
Reflecting Honolulu’s status as a tourist destination, the store also carries a wide assortment of souvenirs, apparel and local offerings.
The pharmacy, which is located on the second floor, has the Well Experience format’s “pharmacist out front” counter design, which is designed to make the pharmacist more accessible to patients, facilitating the provision of services and fostering patient-pharmacist relationships.
Also, an Express Rx pickup kiosk allows customers to quickly pick up and pay for their refill prescriptions, and there is a private health room for counseling and such services as immunizations and health tests.
The second floor is also home to the store’s Look Boutique beauty department, which offers an expanded array of skin care, hair care and cosmetics offerings, including Boots No7 brand products.
Other Walgreens flagship stores are located in New York; Philadelphia; San Francisco; Boston; Chicago; Los Angeles; Las Vegas; Washington, D.C.; and San Juan, Puerto Rico.
