ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The National Association of Chain Drug Stores 2010 Annual Meeting gets under way on Saturday at The Breakers in Palm Beach, Fla.

NACDS president and chief executive officer Steve Anderson reported that this year’s Annual Meeting, which runs April 24 to 27, has generated an uptick in attendance. The interactive event is designed to spur idea exchange, business discussions and networking opportunities, helping retailers and suppliers maximize their productivity.

"The highly anticipated 2010 NACDS Annual Meeting reflects the strength of our industry and our members," Anderson said in a statement. "We have exceeded last year’s attendance of retailers and suppliers, and registration is still open. A review of this year’s attendees reveals key leaders who are trend-setters within the industry.”

NACDS said that highlights of the meeting include a Meet the Retailer program that will provide an opportunity for associate member companies to hear from senior retail executives about how they do business, as well as Strategic Exchange meetings that will offer multiple opportunities to meet and discuss issues with key trading partners.

In addition, two business programs will feature remarks from Anderson as well as outgoing NACDS chairman Andy Giancamilli, CEO of Rexall Pharma Plus, and incoming NACDS chairman Larry Merlo, president of CVS/pharmacy. The programs will deliver insights from top experts, including author and business consultant Jim Collins and General Michael Hayden, former director of the Central Intelligence Agency and National Security Agency.

"NACDS delivers timely and relevant programming and business opportunities at each of our conferences and meetings, and we look forward to a strategic and successful Annual Meeting," Anderson added.
