ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Supervalu Inc. executive vice president of merchandising and marketing Duncan Mac Naughton has been elected to the National Association of Chain Drug Stores board of directors.
Mac Naughton’s election to the board late last month fills a vacancy created when Kevin Tripp, executive vice president of Supervalu’s Midwest division, retired earlier this year.
Mac Naughton will serve the remainder of the 2009/10 term until April 2010, when the association’s annual elections for the board are held at the NACDS Annual Meeting.
Mac Naughton has spent his entire career in the consumer packaged goods and supermarket industries.
He has been part of Supervalu’s executive team since joining the company in 2006 after it acquired Albertsons Inc. At Albertsons, Mac Naughton was executive vice president of merchandising. Prior to that, he held executive positions with H. E. Butt Grocery Co. and Kraft Foods Inc.
“We are pleased to welcome Duncan to the NACDS board of directors,” NACDS president and chief executive officer Steve Anderson says. “Duncan brings leadership and expertise on behalf of the supermarket segment.
“We look forward to working together to advance pharmacy as the face of neighborhood health care and to add value to NACDS’ engagement in front-end activities.”
Meanwhile, three other retail executives — Apotex Inc.’s Jim VanLieshout, GlaxoSmithKline PLC’s Alice Swearingen and Supervalu’s Chris Dimos — have been named to the board of the NACDS Foundation.
