ARLINGTON, Va. — The National Association of Chain Drug Stores has teamed up with the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases (NFID) to hold a free webinar outlining guidance for immunizations.

NACDS said the live online seminar, scheduled for March 1 at 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. ET (registration required), will give the latest Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommendations for adult, child and teen vaccinations. ACIP provides recommendations and guidance to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on the use of immunizations for control of vaccine-preventable diseases in the United States.

The presenters for the NACDS-NFID immunizations webinar are NFID medical director William Schaffner, from the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, and NFID secretary Patricia Stinchfield, from Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota. Both are current liaison members to ACIP.

After the event, participants will be able to describe the most recent ACIP recommendations for adult and child/adolescent immunizations, explain how recent changes to vaccine recommendations will impact immunization programs, and discuss information on new and future vaccines for potential use in practice.

“NACDS is delighted to once again partner with NFID on promoting the public health benefits of vaccinations. Pharmacists are playing an increasingly important role in health care delivery, including vaccinating the public against seasonal influenza and other vaccine-preventable diseases,” NACDS president and and chief executive officer Steve Anderson said in a statement. “Together, we can make great strides in reducing preventable illnesses and ensuring healthier communities.”

Initially accredited for physicians by NFID, the webinar will be available to pharmacists as a result of the partnership with NACDS. One hour of continuing education credit will be available for this program, which is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE). After the webinar, pharmacists seeking CE credit can visit the NACDS Learner Community website. The webinar will accessible via the NACDS Education and NFID Online Education portals.

The immunization recommendations to be discussed in the webinar were presented at ACIP’s Feb. 22-23 meeting.

“NFID welcomes the opportunity to partner once again with NACDS on this vital shared commitment to advancing preventive care through immunizations,” commented NFID CEO and executive director Marla Dalton. “Working together with immunization stakeholders effectively advances efforts to improve patient care and overall health outcomes.”
