PALM BEACH, Fla. – The 2022 National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) Regional Chain Conference Program featured discussion on an array of timely issues — including the industry’s leadership role in pandemic response; federal and state legislative priorities; digital marketing and e-commerce; legal and regulatory compliance issues; pharmaceutical trends and forecasts; patient safety; today’s labor and supply chain environment; and post-pandemic trends in employment law.

2022 Conference speakers included:

  • Al Carter, executive director of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy, who discussed collaborative opportunities to advance legislation and regulations that allow further utilization of pharmacists’ expertise to provide patients’ access to quality healthcare;
  • Scott Biggs, director of supplier services at IQVIA, and Doug Long, vice president of industry relations at IQVIA, who shared the most up-to-date industry data on pharmaceutical trends, issues and forecasts;
  • Tae Chong, director of multicultural markets and strategies, FOB (Fresh Out of the Box) Thinking LLC, who detailed the demographic change occurring in America and the ways in which businesses should adapt to a new multicultural nation;
  • Tara Modisett, executive director, Alliance for Patient Medication Safety, who led a discussion on the ways in which pharmacies can strengthen their immunization work flow with safe practice recommendations and lessons learned from reported error and near miss data;
  • Caroline Masullo, vice president, head of e-commerce marketing, Peapod Digital Labs, who described how the COVID pandemic has accelerated all aspects of e-commerce, and how businesses and consumers are adapting to new, highly elevated levels of digital engagement;
  • Dominique Harris, associate partner, Kearney, and Todd Huseby, partner, Kearney, who explored today’s labor and supply chain environment — and how the COVID pandemic has changed it; and
  • Deborah Kelly, partner, Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP, who talked about the ongoing and evolving changes in today’s workplace as a result of COVID, the redefined workplace and corresponding employment and legal rights and obligations.

In addition, NACDS staff briefed attendees on federal and state policy developments of importance to pharmacy.

A principal feature of the in-person 2022 NACDS Regional Chain Conference is the productive, One-to-One Business Conferences – a popular aspect of the schedule that fosters collaboration among NACDS chain and associate members and which sets the standard for NACDS meetings and conferences.

On Monday, Colleen Lindholz, president of Kroger Health, The Kroger Co., and NACDS chair; Brian Nightengale, president of Good Neighbor Pharmacy and NACDS vice chair; and NACDS President and CEOSteven Anderson emphasized pharmacies’ successes throughout the COVID pandemic, and the industry’s continued “push” to maintain pharmacy viability so that pharmacies may continue to serve the Americans who need it most.

The 2022 Conference was led by Wendy Boynton, director of pharmacy operations for Hannaford Bros. and the 2022 Regional Chain Conference chair.

“The NACDS membership brought their usual high energy and strong engagement to the 2022 NACDS Regional Chain Conference – and it was magnified by the true appreciation of being back together again, in-person,” said NACDS President and CEO Steven Anderson. “The conversations, introductions and idea-sharing that can be seen in the hallways and meeting rooms remind us of the unique value of meeting in-person as an industry. The engagement of NACDS members is truly appreciated and we look forward to the entire 2022 calendar of NACDS events.”
