Nasir Mahmood gets NCPA 2020 Lifetime Achievement Award

ALEXANDRIA, Va.Nasir Mahmood, owner of Pine Plains Pharmacy and resident of Wappingers Falls, N.Y., received the National Community Pharmacists Association’s 2020 Calvin J. Anthony Lifetime Achievement Award. Mahmood received the award as part of NCPA’s Annual Convention, which was held virtually Oct. 18-19, 2020.

The Calvin J. Anthony Lifetime Achievement Award honors a pharmacist who has dedicated his or her career to the advancement of the pharmacy profession. Anthony’s long, distinguished pharmacy career saw him start as an independent community pharmacy owner in Stillwater, Okla., and serve on multiple pharmacy organizational boards, serve as National Association of Retail Druggists (now NCPA) President from 1993-94, and serve a five-year term as NCPA’s Executive Vice President.

“Through his dedication to patients, involvement in professional organizations, and local leadership, Nasir Mahmood is an asset to his region and to independent pharmacy,” said NCPA President Brian Caswell, owner of Wolkar Drug in Baxter Springs, Kan. “He has had a meaningful impact in New York and is a tremendous example of how independent pharmacists across the country work tirelessly to serve their communities and improve quality of life. I commend Nasir for his exceptional leadership and am pleased to recognize him with the Calvin J. Anthony Lifetime Achievement Award.”

Mahmood has served the Pine Plains area since 1989. Throughout his career he has been active in professional organizations including NCPA; the Pharmacists Society of the State of New York, of which he is a past president and chairman of the board; the American Pharmacists Association; the Hudson Valley Pharmacists Society; and the Pakistani American Pharmacists Association. While PSSNY president in 2008-09, Mahmood was instrumental in New York’s successful passage of legislation allowing pharmacists to become immunizers for influenza and pneumococcal disease.

Mahmood has participated in immunization clinics throughout Dutchess County and has held health fairs and screening clinics at Pine Plains Pharmacy. He has also served at the New York State Board of Pharmacy. He has volunteered with many groups as well, including the Pine Plains Health Advisory Council, the Pine Plains Lion Club, the Dutchess County Health Department, and the Dutchess Community Action and Columbia County Health Consortium, helping and identifying people in need of care. He has also worked with the local Food Basket and area religious organizations to provide support.
