CHATSWORTH, Calif. — Natrol LLC has introduced three new dietary supplement products, its first launches since being acquired by Aurobindo Pharma USA Inc.

The new offerings — Natrol Skin, Hair & Nails; Natrol Biotin Plus; and Natrol Extra Strength Turmeric — are slated to hit store shelves this month at select retailers nationwide, including Walgreens, Sprouts and health food retailers.

The products mark the first new items since Natrol’s acquisition by Aurobindo.

Skin, Hair & Nails and Biotin Plus expand Natrol’s lineup of beauty products. Focusing on skin health and vitality, both products contain clinical-strength lutein. The company said clinical research has shown that the daily intake of 10 mg of clinical-strength lutein can help to improve skin hydration and elasticity.

Also, Natrol said, the nutrient helps protect the skin against exposure to sunlight and the environment, according to research published in Skin Pharmacology and Physiology.

“To date, lutein has primarily been associated with eye health, but it has been shown to have a significant effect on skin,” explained Michelle Baron, brand manager for innovation at Natrol. “Most beauty supplements available in the marketplace do not include this essential ingredient for skin health. Natrol is the first to apply it in the beauty segment.”

Skin, Hair & Nails protects against free radicals and oxidative damage from pollution and harmful UV rays, with the lutein helping to hydrate and enhance skin elasticity. The product also contains other beauty nutrients, such as 5000 mcg of biotin, a key B-vitamin that helps strengthen hair and nails, and the complexion-enhancing ingredients collagen and hyaluronic acid. Vitamins A, C, D, B12 and B6 as well as minerals copper and zinc, alpha-lipoic acid and horsetail also have been added to help improve overall health of skin, hair and nails.

Meanwhile, Biotin Plus provides 10 mg of lutein and 5000 mcg of biotin, helping revive hair, strengthen nails and hydrate skin, Natrol said.

Extra Strength Turmeric supports a normal healthy inflammation response, as well as heart and joint health, the brand noted. The supplement features CurcuWIN, a proprietary form of curcumin that significantly boosts absorption of curcuminoids, from which turmeric derives its power.

Natrol said it has been demonstrated that longer sustained periods of curcuminoid availability at high levels of concentration give the body potent antioxidant protection for cellular health. “The majority of turmeric products in the marketplace are not easily absorbed by the body. Natrol uses CurcuWIN delivery method to allow consumers to get the most out of their turmeric supplement,” Baron added.

Natrol’s $132.5 million acquisition by Aurobindo was completed in December 2014. The Natrol family of brands includes Natrol, MRI, PROLAB, Laci Le Beau, NuHair and Shen Min.
