Navarro Discount Pharmacies has bolstered its pharmacy leadership team with the promotion of two executives.

The 28-store South Florida drug chain said it has appointed Jose Alvarez as vice president of merchandising and Angel Colls as director of category management.

"Together, Jose Alvarez and Angel Colls will develop a targeted merchandising strategy for existing store growth and new store expansion," Navarro CEO Steve Kaczynski stated.

MIAMI — Navarro Discount Pharmacies has bolstered its pharmacy leadership team with the promotion of two executives.

The 28-store South Florida drug chain said Monday that it has appointed Jose Alvarez as vice president of merchandising and Angel Colls as director of category management.

"Together, Jose Alvarez and Angel Colls will develop a targeted merchandising strategy for existing store growth and new store expansion," Navarro chief executive officer Steve Kaczynski said in a statement. "Along with the pharmacy leadership team, they will examine current pricing, associate development and training as well as focus on the customer experience and understanding the way that Navarro customers shop."

Alvarez previously was vice president and corporate controller, a post he has held since joining Navarro in March 2007. The retailer said he has been overseeing all aspects of the chain’s financial operations, including financial reporting, inventory valuation and management functions.

Alvarez  has more than 10 years of management experience, including positions at several publicly traded companies. He was recently selected as a finalist of the 2010 South Florida Business Journal "40 Under 40" award for professionals.

Meanwhile, Colls brings extensive product knowledge to his new role, according to Navarro. He formerly was a district manager, supervising store operations and category operations.

Colls joined Navarro when it acquired the FEDCO organization in 2001. At FEDCO, he served as a district manager in charge of purchasing and operations.
