BRIDGEWATER, N.J. – Bausch + Lomb announced that the company’s Specialty Vision Products business has received 510(K) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the Boston scleral lens case, a storage case developed specifically for scleral lenses.

The case is designed to hold lenses up to 23.5 millimeters in diameter and up to 10.0 millimeters in sagittal depth. The Boston scleral lens case is indicated for use with Boston original conditioning solution, Boston Advance formula conditioning solution and Boston Simplus multi-action solution.

“The introduction of our new Boston scleral lens case addresses an unmet need of eye care professionals and patients,” John Ferris, general manager, U.S. Vision Care, Bausch + Lomb said in a statement. “Our latest innovation is specifically designed to store scleral lenses, and demonstrates our commitment to providing innovations for custom lens patients.”

“My patients who wear scleral contact lenses are often concerned about lens care options, as many existing storage products are not designed to hold large lenses, which risks damaging the lenses,” said Michael A. Ward, director, contact lens service, Emory University School of Medicine. “The new Boston scleral lens case gives patients peace of mind knowing that now there is a case available that meets their need to protect and hold their custom lenses.”

Patients can purchase the lens case from the Specialty Vision Products Web Store, along with other products, such as ScleralFil preservative free saline solution and Boston contact lens solutions.
