CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Georgia pharmacist Nikki Adams Bryant, owner of Adams Family Pharmacy in Preston, Adams Family Pharmacy Too in Cuthbert, and a rural primary care clinic, Preston Family Medicine, was honored as the recipient of the 2021 National Preceptor of the Year Award by the National Community Pharmacists Association Foundation as part of NCPA’s Annual Convention, which was held Oct. 9-12, in Charlotte, N.C. Bryant lives in Preston with her husband, Robert, and her two children, Skyler and Lex.

Bryant graduated with her Doctor of Pharmacy from Mercer University College of Pharmacy in 2003. She has experience in hospital pharmacy, nursing home consulting, chain retail, and independent pharmacy. She has been a preceptor for her alma mater since graduation. Her rotation site allows for students to gain experience in advanced community pharmacy, research, medication therapy management, and ambulatory care.

When nominating her for this award, a recent student described how Bryant went above and beyond. Bryant not only shared her medication and patient care-based knowledge and taught about the business side of her independent pharmacies and clinic, but “she also taught us how to cold brew coffee, roast broccoli, make homemade cinnamon rolls, and how to be overall good people.”

The student wrote, “There was nothing that Dr. Bryant does that we didn’t get to see. We saw the world of pharmacy through her eyes, and I can’t express how grateful I am for my experience with her, her family, her staff, and her patients.”

Bryant opened Adams Family Pharmacy in 2014, providing pharmaceutical care to Webster County for the first time in sixty years. After opening her pharmacy, she became sensitive to the need for health care in her underserved community. She opened Preston Family Medicine and employed a nurse practitioner who started seeing patients in January 2018. Her nurse practitioners provide care to patients in the clinic and through home visits. In December 2019, Bryant opened her second independent pharmacy in Cuthbert, Ga.

Bryant is the medical representative on the Webster County Health Department board and is the Webster County Representative on the Regional Advisory Counsel for the Georgia Department Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities. She is Region 3 Georgia Pharmacy Association president, and she serves on the Mercer University College of Pharmacy Alumni Board of Directors. Bryant also is the CEO of the Stewart Webster Cancer Fund, a nonprofit she founded to benefit local cancer patients.
