BOULDER, Colo. — Pharmaca Integrative Pharmacy is expanding beyond its western U.S. market area via an independent pharmacy acquisition that will bring it to the Windy City.

Pharmaca has entered an agreement to buy Aaron’s Apothecary in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago, the chain’s first location in the city.

In addition, Pharmaca has boosted its presence in Los Angeles with the purchase of Roxbury Pharmacy in Beverly Hills, Calif. Pharmaca already has two stores in L.A.’s Pacific Palisades and Brentwood communities.

Financial terms of the transactions weren’t disclosed. Pharmaca said the ownership transition for both pharmacies is under way and it plans grand openings on October 7 for the Beverly Hills Pharmaca and November 4 for the Chicago Pharmaca.

“We look forward to continuing the excellent standard of customer service that Roxbury and Aaron’s have been providing their customers for so many years,” Pharmaca chief executive officer Richard Willis stated. “We’re pleased that now we’ll be able to serve an even greater number of customers in the Los Angeles area and to expand our footprint nationally.

“We feel strongly that Pharmaca is a great fit for the Chicago market, where consumers are already interested in integrative health, wellness and natural beauty,” Willis added.

The acquisitions will give Pharmaca 28 pharmacy stores and two Pharmaca Wellness & Natural Beauty stores in California, Colorado, Illinois, New Mexico, Oregon and Washington.

“Pharmaca’s strong customer-service model is a great fit for this neighborhood and for this pharmacy in particular,” commented Aaron Pietrykowski, owner of Aaron’s Apothecary, who added that he looks forward to being part of the Pharmaca team while still providing a personalized pharmacy experience.

Along with a full-service pharmacy, Pharmaca stores feature compounding, specialty medications and in-store vaccinations. The chain also offers an extensive selection of vitamins and supplements, natural beauty products and guidance from licensed health care practitioners.
