President of Stop & Shop New England steps down

CARLISLE, Pa. — Joe Kelley is leaving his post as president of Ahold USA’s Stop & Shop New England division, effective immediately.

Ahold USA announced Kelley’s departure on Monday. The company said he has resigned to pursue other career opportunities.

Kelley has held the position since May 2012. Before that he was chairman, president and chief executive officer of Marsh Supermarkets Inc.

Don Sussman, president of the Stop & Stop New York Metro division, will also oversee the Stop & Shop New England division on an interim basis.

The Stop & Shop New England division, based in Quincy, Mass., operates about 220 stores — including in-store pharmacy locations — in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut. The division employs around 34,000 associates.
