Rite Aid appoints CIO

CAMP HILL, Pa. — Steve Rempel has joined Rite Aid Corp. as senior vice president and chief information officer.

Rite Aid said Monday that Rempel will oversee all aspects of the company’s technology and information operations, including computer systems, network infrastructure, telecommunications and data security. He also will be responsible for the continued development and execution of Rite Aid’s immediate and long-term information technology strategy.

Rempel comes to Rite Aid from Balance Innovations, a Lenexa, Kan.,-based provider of reconciliation and cash management solutions for the retail industry, where he served as president, chief executive officer and CIO.

He started his career at Safeway Inc. In his 35 years at the food and drug retailer, he held a range of IT positions with increasing responsibility. Serving as the company’s group vice president of application development, he had enterprisewide responsibility for all elements of the IT applications process, including design, development, procurement, development and support.

At Rite Aid, Rempel will report to Frank Vitrano, senior executive vice president and chief administrative officer.

“Steve is an information technology expert with a proven track record in creating, driving and delivering value and results through innovative technology solutions,” Vitrano said in a statement. “His vast retail experience will be extremely valuable to Rite Aid as we continue to develop our technology and services platforms and strategies to further strengthen our business operations and enhance the experiences of our valued customers and associates.”
