Rite Aid in step with ‘new era’

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

CAMP HILL, Pa. — Rite Aid Corp. pharmacists are now offering personalized Rite Care Prescription Advisor reports to show patients how well they are doing taking regularly prescribed medications.

The Rite Care Prescription Advisor program is centered on patient consultations with Rite Aid pharmacists, which are intended to help the patients understand the importance of taking their medications as prescribed.

According to the New England Health Institute, about half of Americans who take prescriptions do so incorrectly, resulting in about $290 billion in avoidable health care costs annually.

“We’re witnessing a new era of patient care that is more effectively utilizing community pharmacists to ensure that medications are taken as prescribed, which can lead to better patient outcomes and lower overall health care costs,” explains Rite Aid executive vice president of pharmacy Robert Thompson.

“We believe face-to-face counseling is critical to improving therapeutic outcomes. The Rite Care Prescription Advisor is a new tool designed to do just that by facilitating meaningful face-to-face counseling and enhancing the pharmacist-patient relationship.”

Patients in the program receive a complete report showing a compliance score for each prescribed medication, depicted in an easy-to-understand line graph. The reports can also be accessed through a patient’s MyPharmacy account on Rite Aid’s website.

To encourage more customers to try the Rite Care Prescription Advisor reports, the drug chain is placing ads in weekly newspaper circulars.
