CAMP HILL, Pa. — Rite Aid Corp. has launched its flu shot program, making seasonal flu vaccinations available at more than 3,000 of its pharmacy locations nationwide.

The drug store chain said Thursday that the flu vaccines, which cost $24.99, will be administered by more than 7,000 Rite Aid certified immunizing pharmacists.

Late last month, Rite Aid had announced that starting Aug. 2 over 3,000 Rite Aid pharmacies would will begin accepting advance reservations for seasonal flu shots scheduled in September or sooner. This year, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is recommending that everyone age 6 months and older get the flu vaccine, which protects against the H1N1 virus and two other flu strains.

The pharmacy retailer said Thursday that anyone who gets a flu immunization will receive a free coupon booklet that offers more than $100 in savings. The booklet includes discounts on health and wellness, beauty and household items and other products.

Plans also call for Rite Aid to hold flu clinics at more than 800 additional stores in October and November.

Besides providing seasonal flu shots, Rite Aid also is offering pneumococcal shots for pneumonia, administered by Rite Aid pharmacists and at the drug chain’s flu clinics. The pneumococcal immunizations, which can be administered at the same time as the seasonal flu shot, cost $50.
