Roxane rolls out Lotronex generic

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Roxane Laboratories Inc. has released alosetron hydrochloride tablets, a treatement for irritable bowel syndrome in women.

The company said the tablets, available in 0.5-mg and 1-mg strengths in 30-count bottles, has begun shipping to wholesalers and pharmacies nationwide.

According to Roxane, the Food and Drug Administration approved the Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) for the product on May 4. The medication is a generic version of Prometheus’ Lotronex tablets (alosetron, 0.5 mg and 1 mg).

Alosetron hydrochloride tablets had sales of approximately $86 million in the year through March 2015, according to IMS Health data reported by Roxane.
