Safe medicine cap employs combination lock

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

LINCOLN, Calif. — Cap-N-Lock LLC has announced The Locking Cap, a combination locking cap designed to work with current prescription medication bottles.

The Locking Cap features a four-digit locking mechanism.

The company said Monday that The Locking Cap allows parents and prescription holders to safely secure and store dangerous medications in a small, convenient and more portable container.

Addressing the epidemic of prescription drug abuse and misuse, the device was designed to help families prevent unauthorized and undetected use of prescription medicines by teens and young children for nonmedical purposes.

With a four-digit combination locking mechanism and sturdy PVC construction, the cap is easy to use — its unique locking mechanism eliminates the need to put downward pressure when removing the cap — but is virtually impossible to get past without detection, according to Cap-N-Lock.

"The Locking Cap eliminates unauthorized access to dangerous prescription drugs," stated Joseph Simpson, president and product designer for Cap-N-Lock. "The Locking Cap is very easy to operate. It protects families by blocking access to curious children and experimental teens. Plus, it features a compact design that allows for easy access and storage when traveling and at home."

Designed and manufactured in the United States, The Locking Cap is now available in pharmacies nationwide — including Ralphs, Savemart and Lucky pharmacies — as well as online at TheLockingCap.com, the company said. The cap is priced at $9.99 on the product website. Also offered are replacement adapters, priced at $1 each, that are currently compatible with Rite Aid, Savemart, Kroger, Ralphs, Fred Myer and Costco pharmacies and are coming soon for Walmart, CVS and Walgreens, according to the website.
