NOVI, Mich. — Sav-Mor/Sav-On Pharmacies plans to deploy PharmaSmart International Inc.’s biometric screening kiosk and health information technology solution in all of its stores.

PharmaSmart, based in Rochester, N.Y., said that Sav-On Drugs, a 19-store chain in southeastern Michigan, plans to roll out the PharmaSmart blood pressure and pulse kiosk, integrated data management solution and Blood Pressure Tracker personal health record.

With the solution, Sav-On pharmacists and local physicians will be able to better manage patients with hypertension and related chronic conditions, according to PharmaSmart.

In addition, the PharmaSmart personal health record will let patients and health care providers access the Department of Health and Human Services’ Million Hearts Risk Assessment platform. The Million Hearts program aims to eliminate 1 million heart attacks by 2017.

Sav-Mor/Sav-On is offering free health screenings at its pharmacies and alerting physicians about the service.

“The PharmaSmart blood pressure program is exactly what we were looking to implement throughout our stores. It is a pure clinical solution in tune with today’s health care strategy and patient standard,” Sav-Mor Drugstores executive vice president Yvonne Gallagher said. “The Health IT segment of the program is integrated into our pharmacy system. That’s why we are using the PharmaSmart blood pressure for our new Blood Pressure Club. It will be the foundation of the Sav-Mor Wellness Program. The patient technology tools will allow the patients, pharmacists and physicians to better manage and analyze blood pressure readings.”

Other pharmacy operators that have deployed PharmaSmart’s kiosk and health IT solution include Kinney Drugs, Bartell Drugs, Jean Coutu Group, Shoppers Drug Mart, Rexall, Good Neighbor Pharmacy and Walmart Canada.
