GUILFORD, Conn. — Mitchell-Vance Laboratories plans to introduce its new ScarAway Scar Diminishing Serum this spring at Walgreens drug stores nationwide.

The company said Tuesday that ScarAway Scar Diminishing Serum, due to hit Walgreens store shelves in April, provides a convenient way — especially for people on the go — to shrink, flatten and fade hypertrophic (raised) and keloid scars that may result from surgical procedures, injuries, burns, stretch marks or acne.

Housed in a tube no bigger than a mascara wand, ScarAway Scar Diminishing Serum enables users with a click of the "pen" to dispense the silicone gel-based formulation precisely and directly to the scar area, where it is then massaged into the skin with three roller balls at the tip. The company noted that such quick and easy application is a big departure from messy ointments and creams and lets users treat scars on any part of the body, especially in such hard-to-reach areas as the face, neck, scalp, hands, ears and joints.

To be available in a 0.2-ounce bottle, ScarAway Scar Diminishing Serum carries a suggested retail price of $17.99.

Rowen added that the serum is odor-free and nongreasy, and it can be worn under makeup or other skin care products, such as a moisturizer. The company also noted that silicone gel has been proven in numerous studies to not only reduce the appearance of old and new scars but also to reduce the formation of scars from newly healed wounds.
