TORONTO — This weekend, Shoppers Drug Mart stores across Canada plan to hold in-store beauty events in support of women’s health initiatives.

SDM Beauty Boutique front_featuredOn Saturday, Nov. 7, all participating Shoppers Drug Mart stores in Ontario, British Columbia and Yukon will host Beauty Galas to support the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, while stores in Alberta, the Prairie provinces and the Atlantic region will host Makeover Events to support Beauty Gives Back.

The beauty events will offer activities ranging from skin analysis and makeup applications to special draws and raffles. Tickets are available for $10 at Shoppers Drug Mart stores. Of each ticket sold, $5 will be donated to either the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation or Beauty Gives Back, depending on the store location. The remaining $5 is redeemable on any cosmetic purchase made at Shoppers Drug Mart during the event.

Shoppers Drug Mart noted that the events will allow customers to discover their own beauty while giving back to the community.

“The Holiday Beauty Galas allow customers and employees the opportunity to donate directly to the organizations that make a difference to women’s health,” Lisa Gibbs, director of community investment for Shoppers Drug Mart, said in a statement. “With the support of our associate-owners, their store teams, our employees and customers, we can make a difference and improve the health of all Canadian women in body, mind and spirit.”

The beauty events are part of Shoppers LOVE YOU, Shoppers Drug Mart’s multiyear initiative to help women stay focused on their health. Over the past five years, the program has contributed more than $57 million on behalf of its customers, associate owners and their store teams to local, regional and national women’s health initiatives, benefiting more than 1.5 million Canadian women, according to the drug chain.

“The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation is grateful to Shoppers Drug Mart associate-owners, store teams, employees and customers for their passion and commitment to our vision of a future without breast cancer,” staed Bernice Scholten, executive director of the B.C. Region for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, BC Region. “Funds raised through the Holiday Beauty Galas will support the addition of two more digital mammography coaches to improve access to screening for women in British Columbia.”

In Ontario, the funds from the events will support the development of an online decision-aid tool to support women to make an informed and empowered decision about breast screening. “Bringing this tool to women in Canada furthers the mission of Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation to promote breast health in Canada,” commented Lynne Hudson, chief executive officer of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.

A charitable foundation of the Canadian beauty industry, Beauty Gives Back has helped tens of thousands of women get through the emotional fallout from cancer and its treatment through such programs as Look Good Feel Better — a free, two-hour cosmetic and hair alternatives workshop — and FacingCancer.ca, an online support community.

“Shoppers Drug Mart has played a significant role in helping us in our mission to foster greater awareness, support and understanding of the social and emotional needs of women living with cancer since 2011,” stated Sherry Abbott, executive director of Beauty Gives Back. “We thank Shoppers Drug Mart for their continued dedication and contributions to the well-being of women in communities all across Canada.”
