SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — Stater Bros. Super Rx Pharmacy this month will offer prenatal vitamins free to expectant mothers.

The food and drug chain said Monday that its Free Prenatal Vitamin Program, which comes during Pregnancy Awareness Month, will feature the generic version of the following brands: Advanced Natal Care, Natal Care Glosstabs, Nata Tab Rx, Natal Care Plus, Prenavite and Ultra Natal Care.

Women who are pregnant or planning to have children can qualify for the program with a doctor’s prescription, Stater Bros. said. Quantities must be written for a 30-day supply and not exceed 30 tablets.

"Stater Bros. remains committed to the health and well-being of our valued customers. As the only supermarket chain in southern California to offer this program free of charge, Stater Bros. is proud to promote the health of mothers-to-be while easing some of the economic burden that many of our valued customers are facing," chairman and chief executive officer Jack Brown said in a statement.

The prenatal vitamin program is one of several healthy living initiatives offered by Stater Bros. Super Rx Pharmacy. Those efforts include a free antibiotic program that offers a 14-day supply of selected antibiotics, including refills, at no charge, as well as a discount generic prescription program that covers more than 300 commonly prescribed medications and costs $4 for a 30-day supply and $10 for a 90-day supply.

Stater Bros. operates 167 supermarkets, including 28 pharmacies, in southern California.
