KIRKWOOD, Mo. — Supervalu Inc.’s Shop ’n Save food and drug chain has acquired Rinderer’s Drug Stores Inc.

The deal for the six-store drug chain will see Shop ’n Save incorporate three Rinderer’s units into its store base, bringing its total number of community pharmacies in the St. Louis and Springfield, Ill., markets to 34.

The other three stores will be closed and their pharmacy files transferred to nearby Shop ’n Save stores.

“We are delighted to welcome new customers to our pharmacies, as we work to make this transition as seamless as possible” Shop ’n Save president Marlene Gebhard says. “Our new patients can be confident that we will offer excellent service, as well as a number of resources that can help improve their health and well-being.”

Based in St. Louis , Rinderer’s had operated as a family business for five decades.

“I believe this acquisition puts [our customers] in very good hands,” Rinderer’s president Matthew Carlisle comments. “Patients will receive the same standard of care provided by Rinderer’s.”
